Did you know that the weather can have a direct impact on our mood?
Gloomy, rainy days can sometimes make people feel a bit down or melancholic. This mood shift can further contribute to a lack of motivation to engage in activities outside the essentials. It is a common experience for many people, and I include myself because the same thing happens to me too. Rainy and overcast days often come with reduced sunlight, which will probably affect our moods. Sunlight exposure plays a significant role in regulating our circadian rhythms and influencing our mood. I have read in some health articles or magazines that it can be attributed to a combination of psychological and physiological factors. When there's less sunlight, our bodies may produce less serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of well-being and motivation. As a result, we may feel more sluggish and less motivated to engage in outdoor or indoor activities. Since rainy weather tends to create an atmosphere of comfort and coziness indoors, for example, the sound of raindrops on the windows, the soft, diffused lighting, and the opportunity to snuggle up with a warm blanket or a good book and a cup of coffee can make staying indoors and relaxing seem especially cozy.
